Gaels Defeat Neighbours

Simonstown Gaels 3-11

Wolfe Tones 0-2

Simonstown Gaels played against the Tones tonight under cold and windy conditions. It was cagey to begin with and it took 13 minutes for the first score to be registered. Cian Ward opened the scoring after 13 minutes, remarkably it would take the Tones 33 more minutes to register their next score. Simonstown’s Chris O’Neill had an excellent first half scoring 5 points and Nicky O’Brien scored a point from play. This left the scoreline 0:6 - 0:1 at half time.

Simonstown had a brilliant start to the second half registering 2 quick fire goals. Simonstown were fortunate to have Mark McCabe and his presence was made known when he half volleyed the ball past the Tones keeper. Néil Kane also had a super game and scored a sensational goal in the 32nd minute. This effectively ended the game and left the score 2-07 after 34 minutes. The Gaels recorded 4 more points and a goal for the rest of the match. Nathan O’Brien got 2 very good points from play and his brother Nicky also converted a point from play. Shane Barry and Roz O’Connor were instrumental players in the game and their tireless workout was a huge contributory factor to the Gael’s victory. Chris O’Neill capped off the game with a goal from close range after Michael Gavin’s shot was directed into his path. Best for Simonstown Chris O’Neill, Néil Kane, Mark Devlin, Nicky O’Brien and Roz O’Connor.

Best of luck to Simonstown’s Brían Conlon, Padraig McKeever and Seán Tobin who start tomorrow vs Clare in Páirc Táílteann.
