(Mark McCabe Report)
The senior team have progressed to the quarter final stages of the Meath SFC with a game to spare after a 2-16 to 0-9 victory over Blackhall Gaels. In similar fashion to last years championship meeting, it took a long time for the Simonstown to get going. Blackhall took an early lead in the 2nd min from a free but Kearney pulled it back after neat play from himself and Nicky O’Brien. Simonstown then had the chance to increase their lead from the penalty spot after Brian Mc Grath was fouled but Mc Cabe sent the penalty wide. It took another 11mins before Simonstown registered a score through a close in free from Sheridan after Blackhall had taken a 0-03 to 0-01 lead with 2 more frees. Blackhall added another with a free from an acute angle before Kearney, a brilliant outside of the right boot score from Nicky and Sheridan points left the game at 0-04 each. Simonstown’s dominance was rewarded with a goal, as black card replacement Shane Barry (for Mark Mc Cabe) sent in a pin point 50-yard pass onto Lyons chest, who laid off to Nicky running through and finished to the net. Blackhall once again added to their tally with a free leaving it 1-05 to 0-05 at HT.
Simonstown started the 2nd half with a Kearney toe poked goal effort that was stopped on the line. Joe Lyon’s quickly dispossessed the Blackhall defence to set Kearney up for a point. Blackhall registered their first score from play in the 34th min and added two more points from a placed ball and open play to come back within a point of the reigning champions 1-06 to 0-08. Sheridan increased his tally for the day with a pointed free & a goal with good build up from Barry and Kearney. Blackhall got their last score of the game in the 46th min through a free. Kearney sent over 3 points from play in 4 mins, with the third started by a good interception from substitute Ian O’Rourke returning from a lengthy lay off with a cruciate knee injury. Ben Hoey then opened his account with two from frees and two from play within a 5mins period. Nicky O’Brien, who tormented the Blackhall defence all game, scored the last point from play and sub Micky Brennan slotted a free with the last kick of the game to leave it 2-16 to 0-09. Sean Conlon also made his senior championship debut replacing his brother Breen with a few minutes to go.
Best for Simonstown were S. Moran, N. Kane, C. Sheridan, N. O’Brien and A. Kearney.

(James O’Dwyer report)
Simonstown travelled to trim last Sunday to take on Blackhall Gaels in the 4th round of the senior championship..A win for the north navan men would see them qualify for the knockout stages of the competition for the 3rd year running..Blackhall got the first point of the game before Andy Kearney opened his account and had the sides level..The game was only 3 mins old and simonstown were awarded a penalty after Brian Mc Grath made a surging run forward and was fouled in the box..The resulting penalty was missed..There wasn’t a lot of talking points during the first half as Blackhall really tried to simonstown from playing football and attacking..Blackhall did find themselves 3-1 up before simonstown started knocking on the door looking for some scores of their own..Conor Sheridan(2) Andy Kearney and Nicky O Brien all added points for simonstown. 22 mins into the game Shane Barry replaced Mark McCabe for a black card..Barry wasn’t that long on the pitch before setting up the opening goal of the game..Barry played a long pin-point pass into the arms of Joe Lyons who layed off to Nicky O Brien who slotted home..At half time the scoreboard read Simonstown 1-05 Blackhall Gaels 0-05
Into the second half both sides did register some early scores and 12 mins in simonstown found the Blackhall net for the second time after a turn over by Niall Kane in the half back line it was worked up the pitch and finished off by Conor Sheridan..simonstown half back line were always a driving force with Mark Gardiner and Niall Kane being well able to get up and down the pitch..In the last 15 mins of the game Blackhall ran out of steam and didn’t register a score in the last quarter..after the Sheridan goal mid-way through the 2nd half simonstown were in control of the game..in the last quarter of the game simonstown did kick 8 unanswered points..this result now leaves simonstown qualified for the quarter final stages of the senior with one game left to play in the group which is against Donaghmore Ashbourne
