Simonstown began the game brightly with a point by Mark McCabe. Oldcastle responded quickly with a point on the 5th minute but the Gaels answered back swiftly with a goal and a point. The goal was well worked with Crouchy McCabe palming the ball down to the on rushing Ben Hoey. Hoey displayed trickery and composure to evade the advancing Oldcastle keeper.
