Sensechastown GFc 1-11 (14)
This was a very important game for both sides with Seneschalstown and Simonstown losing in round 1 and it already felt like a must win game for both sides. Simonstown began the game with a point from Dylan Molloy Battigan, his effort dropped short but skidded on the astroturf and bounced over the bar. The conditions proved difficult for both sides with a lot of miss placed passes. The ball was skidding off the grass and often went into touch. Senechalstown responded with scores and led by 2 points at the break. Simonstown scored from 2 frees through Charlie McNulty and Brian Brady. McNulty’s free was a peach from distance scoring with the outside of his boot. Score at the end of a low scoring half was Simonstown 0-3 Seneschalstown 0-5.
Simonstown resumed the second half but the Navan side would only register 1 point in the opening 20 minutes. This came again from a spectacular sideline free from the veteran Charlie McNulty. Unfortunately from a Gael perspective Seneschalstown dominated the proceedings and a critical goal was well dispatched past Darren Brady in the Simonstown nets. The introduction of Keith Brady narrowed the gap, Brady’s free taking was exemplary and his vision was needed. Evan Burlingham latched on a consolation point, his work as the PRO helped in this regard. Burlingham had been observing Mark ‘Crouchy’ McCabe for the best parts of 3 years and his point was a trademark ‘Crouchy’ point. The game ended with the score of Simonstown 0-7 (7) Seneschalstown GFC 1-11 (14)
