Autumn League U13 Division 6B Round 1
FT Drumbaragh B 1-03 Simonstown C 5-07
On a beautiful Thursday evening our U13 C girls team played their First Game of the Autumn League Division 6B away to Drumbaragh B. From the throw in it was obvious this very young team were determined to prove they could hold their own in this age group and started the game at a great pace. Within minutes Mia Walsh scored a fine point for a free to reward the girls for some great football. Further points from Anna Gardiner and Madison Lyons added to the score and were the result of some excellent passing moves up the field. The full back line of Eabha Harmon, Eabha Madden and Caoimhe Lambe were proving impossible to beat and they had great protection from the half backs of Eimear Brady and the incredible hard-working Mya Doocey. Some more super passing resulted in another free and Mia Walsh found the back of the net to increase the girls lead. Drumbaragh did register their first point of the game before half time but the Simonstown response was instant as Libby O’Reilly scored a super goal to leave the half time score Drumbaragh B 0-01 Simonstown C 2-03.
With the girls used to playing quarters in games up to now it was important that they paced themselves in the second half and again they started fast as Libby and Maddie both added points to their tallies. Despite a good period for Drumbaragh where they scored a goal and 2 points in quick succession Simonstown rallied and finished the game very strongly with Libby registering another goal and a point while Molly Holland came in as a sub and scored a great point. Not to be outdone Aoife Cahill also got in on the scoring with two well taken goals to leave the final score Drumbaragh B 1-03 Simonstown C 5-07.
This was a fantastic display of football and more importantly team work as we must remember eleven of this team are U 11 and had also played an U11 game the previous night so their work rate and appetite for the game was amazing to see. Meighan Dowdall was fantastic in goals and her clearances and kick outs were first class. The already mentioned back lines were outstanding as was the midfield duo of Mia Walsh and Anna Gardiner who were playing for the first time together as a midfield pair. As well as the scorers our other two forwards Grace Gardiner and Mia Kavanagh worked so hard and their selfless work to set up their team mates for scores was brilliant.
While probably tougher games are still to come anyone at the game would agree it was great to see the confidence build in each and every one of the girls as the game went on and if they continue to believe in themselves and the skills they have there is no reason they cannot continue to improve and get better with every game they play.
Thanks to Drumbaragh who are always a fantastic and fair team to play against and as always to our fantastic parents and families for coming out again to support the girls 2 nights in a row. They have done you all proud and we are very proud to be involved with another fantastic group of players.
