Match report from our Junior B Championship match against Dunboyne.
On Thursday 16th August the Simonstown Juniors played their 4th Round game against Dunboyne at home in Simonstown in what were the perfect conditions for a Championship game.
Simonstown started the game brightly and had 5 scores on the board before Dunboyne registered their first score. This lively start to the match continued throughout and Simonstown put in a huge effort with everyone contributing well. All the players worked exceptionally hard in the 1st half and at half-time the score was Simonstown 2-7 to Dunboyne’s 0-05.
From past experience the girls knew Dunboyne were more than capable of a come back and once again started the second half as they did the first and registered 4 scores before Dunboyne popped over their only score of the 2nd half. This game had it all; blocks, great scores, superb well-timed tackles but most of all team work in spades and each girl played to the best of their ability and bravely supported each other. Nicole Byrne between the posts kept a clean sheet and delivered some intelligent kick-outs.
Captain Jane Smyth lead by example throughout and herself and the rest of the backs – Orla Conlon, Laura McEnery, Rachel Abu, Leanne Harris and Ella Martin made Dunboyne work very hard for their scores.
Rachel Flynn and Shona Lister put in huge efforts at mid-field defending when needed and sending in a great supply to the forwards. Shona topped off a great performance with a lovely score taken towards the end of the game.
Brilliant movement from the forwards saw some lovely skilful scores taken throughout the game.
Final Score Simonstown 4-12, St Dunboyne 0-16
