Simonstown Gaels GFC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael (Mick) O’Brien.

Michael was part of a family whose contribution to our club has spanned generations. His brother Dermot has long been a stalwart of Simonstown Gaels, dedicating countless years to managing and coaching teams across all levels. His brother Eamon also played a significant role in recent years as manager of our senior team.

Michael’s nephews, Paul and Shane, have both proudly represented the club on the field, with Shane also serving as our PRO for many years. His niece Orla has likewise been actively involved in club life, continuing the O’Brien family’s deep commitment to our community.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dermot, Joan, Paul, Shane, and Orla, as well as to the wider O’Brien family, on Mick’s passing.

Mick himself was heavily involved with Walterstown GFC, where he was a key figure on their successful teams of the 1970s and 1980s. His dedication to the GAA extended far beyond his playing days—he gave generously of his time to support youth football, not only within his own club but also throughout Meath, helping to nurture and guide young players across the county.

Michael’s passing is felt deeply across the GAA community. We hold his family and friends in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
