Nathan Reilly (On his Senior Team Debut) with 2—3 from play was the star man for Simonstown in Feis Cup 1st Round match played in Seneschalstown on Monday night in very poor conditions for football.
The Navan men started brightly when Jack Collier pointed for the first score of 2026. Ben Hoey who had replaced Shane Barry in goal after three minutes then converted two forty fives in as many minutes. Shane McEnery floated over a free. Niall Kane ,Paddy Heaney and Nathan Reilly raised white flags to put Simons 0—7 to 0—1 ahead with twelve minutes on the clock. The visitors midfield and backs were on top and creating the chances for the forwards.
Seneschalstown began to win breaks and scored 1—2, the conditions were a major factor in the goal. Reilly tapped over and the hosts converted two close in frees to leave the teams level after twenty six minutes 0—8 to 1—5. Ben Hoey fired over a two point free. Aaron Farrelly then landed a two pointer from play. McEnery scored from play and Simonstown led at the break 0—13 to 1--5.
The second half started with Tadgh Hanrahan splitting the posts and Nathan Reilly got his first goal after nice team play—he finished low to the net. The home team replied with four points ( 1x2f. 0--2). Simons led 1—14 to 1—9 as the fourth quarter began. Jamie Keane, Eoin Keane and Shane McEnery all pointed from play to put Simons in front 1—17 to 1—9 with seven minutes left to play. Nathan Reilly tapped over and finished in style with another low ball to corner of the net for his second goal on the night. 2—18 to 1--9. Seneschalstown completed their tally with three late points.
